Atlanta weather today brings showers and thunderstorms through the morning, with a high near 77°F and southwest winds gusting up to 25 mph—so leave the umbrella by the door and grab a packable rain jacket instead.

Here’s what to expect: A complex of showers and embedded thunderstorms will push through our area through about 10 AM ET, with the heaviest activity hitting early. Our National Weather Service forecasters note that the atmosphere remains quite stable thanks to yesterday’s reinforcing rainfall, so while we’ll see some breezy winds and isolated rumbles of thunder, the main threat is just getting wet. Rainfall amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch are possible—nothing that’ll flood the streets, but enough to make you glad you’re not tailgating at Truist Park for the Braves versus Detroit Tigers game happening today.

After 10 AM, conditions improve slightly. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms returns between 2 PM and 5 PM ET, but mostly we’ll see partly sunny skies and breezy conditions. If you’ve got outdoor plans in Piedmont Park or along the BeltLine, plan to move them indoors this morning and revisit them this afternoon.

For tonight and Thursday: Things settle down nicely. A 30% chance of showers after 1 AM ET tonight, then Thursday looks much better—partly sunny with a high near 74°F and just a 20% chance of rain showers before 8 AM. Perfect for heading back outside, though it’ll be a bit cooler.

What to wear and bring: Ditch the heavy jacket but definitely grab a packable rain jacket—lightweight, packable, and won’t take up much room. If you’re heading to the Hawks versus Knicks playoff game at State Farm Arena on Thursday, April 30th, you’re in luck—indoor comfort all the way. Grab Official team gear on Fanatics to show your support, and Find tickets on StubHub if you’re still looking to catch the action.

Meal idea for today: This is perfect slow cooker weather. Set a programmable slow cooker with chili or beef stew this morning before the rain hits, and you’ll have comfort food ready by dinner time. An enameled cast iron Dutch oven works great too if you prefer stovetop cooking. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon Fresh and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Looking ahead: Friday and Saturday cool down nicely, with highs in the 60s this weekend. The Braves game today might be a washout early, but Thursday’s Hawks playoff game looks dry and pleasant for walking to State Farm Arena from Buckhead or Downtown.

Stay dry out there, neighbors!
