Patchy Fog This Morning, Then Showers & Storms Tonight—Plan Accordingly

Good morning, neighbors! If you’re heading out early today, watch for patchy fog through mid-morning—it’ll clear out around 11 AM, so give yourself a little extra time on the commute if visibility gets dicey. After that, we’re looking at mostly cloudy skies with a high near 57°F and just an 18% chance of rain showers during daylight hours. Light east winds at 1 to 6 mph mean it’ll feel pretty calm out there.

Daytime Plans? You’re in Good Shape

Today’s a decent day to get outside if you’re flexible. Golfers can play through without major rain concerns, though it’ll be cool. Dog walkers and joggers won’t need heavy layers—a light jacket or fleece will do the trick. If you’ve been waiting for a good day to tackle yard work, today’s workable, though you might want to hold off on mowing until Friday if possible (more on that in a moment).

Tonight’s the Wild Card

Here’s where things get interesting. A shortwave is moving in tonight, and the National Weather Service is expecting showers and thunderstorms to develop after sunset. The Storm Prediction Center isn’t highlighting severe weather concerns, but we could see some rumbling and lightning between 8 PM and 10 PM, with scattered showers lingering into the early morning hours. Rainfall amounts should stay under a tenth of an inch, so no flooding concerns, but if you’re heading to Fenway Park tomorrow night for the Red Sox–Tigers game, keep an umbrella handy and expect damp conditions during the evening.

If you’re planning a cozy night in, this is perfect weather for a slow cooker chili or hearty beef stew—set it this morning and come home to something warm and comforting. A programmable slow cooker makes this effortless.

Friday: Cooler and Still Wet

Friday morning starts with patchy fog and a slight rain chance before 8 AM, then we’re in for a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Temperatures will climb to 73°F early on but then fall through the 60s and into the low 50s by evening—a noticeable cool-down. That means you’ll want layers for the ball game or if you’re catching the New England Revolution match at Gillette Stadium on Saturday. Pack a packable rain jacket and a compact travel umbrella; you’ll thank yourself.

Save the lawn mowing and outdoor projects for next week—Friday’s too wet and weekend plans might get rained on.

Looking Ahead

A strong cold front pushes through Sunday, bringing showers and possibly brief snow showers in higher elevations (though nothing significant). Expect blustery conditions and unusually cool temperatures for mid-April early next week—think 40s and 50s. Spring’s being a tease this year!

Stay dry out there, and I’ll have another update tomorrow.
