Charlotte is starting Tuesday with partly sunny skies and a refreshingly cool high near 74°F — about 10 degrees below what’s typical for early June in the Queen City — making this one of the more comfortable days we’ll see before summer heat locks in. If you’re heading out from Dilworth or NoDa this morning, bring a light layer and enjoy it.

Today’s Setup

Northeast winds of 8 to 12 mph with gusts up to 20 mph will be the story across the Charlotte weather forecast area today. The National Weather Service notes that drier air is filtering into the Piedmont behind a departing weather system, so Charlotte proper should stay mostly dry. Any scattered showers today will be confined to areas west of Highway 321, closer to the Foothills — well clear of Uptown or South End. Mid-level clouds keep us partly sunny rather than brilliantly bright, but humidity is low and the air feels crisp.

Best Window To Be Outside

Midday through early afternoon (11 AM–3 PM ET) is your sweet spot. Lake Norman is calling — flat-water conditions in the morning before afternoon winds build toward those 20 mph gusts. Cyclists on the Little Sugar Creek Greenway and golfers in Ballantyne or along Providence Road should find easy, comfortable conditions. If you’ve got outdoor furniture or a patio setup in Myers Park or South End, those gusts are worth a heads-up — a set of outdoor furniture covers or a pop-up canopy tent with weights will keep things from migrating across the yard.

Rain & Wind Risk

No severe weather for Charlotte today. The Storm Prediction Center has no convective outlook for our area, and the Weather Prediction Center’s excessive rainfall concerns are focused on North Dakota and West Texas — nowhere near the Carolinas. The Piedmont stays dry. Tonight goes mostly clear with a low around 52°F. Open the windows.

Tonight’s Events

Echo & the Bunnymen are at The Fillmore Charlotte tonight — an indoor show, so weather is a total non-issue. Great night for it.

Hurricanes fans, the Carolina Hurricanes host the Vegas Golden Knights in Stanley Cup Final action at Lenovo Center on Wednesday, June 3. If you’re making the drive up to Raleigh, conditions will be ideal — sunny and near 80°F. Rep the team with a Carolina Hurricanes jersey, and toss a Carolina Hurricanes beanie in your bag for the arena chill. Find tickets on StubHub or Get tickets on SeatGeek before they’re gone.

Dinner & Grill Night

A 52°F overnight low, low humidity, and calm evening winds? That’s backyard grilling weather. Fire up the grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob. An instant-read meat thermometer takes the guesswork out of doneness, and a grill brush and scraper set keeps your grates ready to go — both solid picks with Father’s Day right around the corner. Looking to level up your technique? Our guide to smoking tri-tip like brisket is worth a read. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Wednesday brings full sunshine and a near 80°F high with nearly calm winds — an outstanding day across the board. Thursday climbs to near 85°F, still sunny. The National Weather Service confirms a strong high-pressure ridge building into the Southeast will keep Charlotte dry and warming through the rest of the week. Enjoy the comfortable stretch while it lasts — peak summer is on its way.
