Chicago weather today brings patchy fog through mid-morning, then partly sunny skies with a high near 53°F—cool for late April, especially if you’re near Lake Michigan or heading to Lincoln Park.

Here’s what’s happening: Low clouds moving in from northwest Indiana will create some visibility issues early this morning, particularly along the North Shore toward Evanston and over the lake itself. The National Weather Service expects the best chance for denser fog through around 1 PM CT, so if you’re commuting downtown or heading to Soldier Field for the Classic Stadium Tour on Wednesday, give yourself extra time before 10 AM CT. Winds will stay light at 5 to 10 mph this morning, picking up to 10 to 15 mph by evening with gusts to 25 mph—nothing too rough, but enough to make a difference if you’re planning outdoor activities in Lincoln Park or along the Lakefront Trail.

The Big Story: Severe Weather Monday

Here’s where I need to get your attention: Monday is going to be a significant severe weather day across the Chicago area. Showers and thunderstorms will develop after 7 AM CT and persist through the afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service is warning that some storms could be severe with all hazards possible—large hail, damaging winds, and even tornadoes. Heavy rain and localized flash flooding are also on the table, especially if storms stall over any one area.

If you’re planning to catch the White Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels at Rate Field on Monday, I’d strongly recommend checking game status updates throughout the morning. Conditions should improve by Tuesday, but Monday’s commute and outdoor plans need flexibility. Keep your phone charged, know where your safe room is, and stay weather-aware between 10 AM and 8 PM CT.

What to Do This Weekend

Today and tonight are your window for outdoor prep. If you’ve been wanting to get your grill ready for the season, today’s decent—just watch that wind pick up this evening. A portable propane grill works great for smaller patios in neighborhoods like Wicker Park or Logan Square. If you’re dealing with spring allergies (and who in Chicago isn’t?), grab an allergy relief nasal spray and a pollen count face mask before Monday’s storm system arrives and stirs everything up.

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band are coming to the United Center on Wednesday, April 29th—grab a Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band t-shirt and Get tickets on SeatGeek before the show. Weather should be improving by then, so dress in layers.

Looking Ahead

Tuesday clears out nicely, and we’re back to seasonable conditions by midweek. If you’re planning a picnic or outdoor gathering next weekend, that’s shaping up much better than Monday.

For tonight’s dinner, something warm and comforting makes sense before the storm arrives. Consider a hearty pasta or stir-fry that doesn’t require outdoor grilling. You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything delivered—grab some fresh vegetables and your favorite pasta sauce to have ready.
