Dallas–Fort Worth is waking up to showers and thunderstorms on Saturday, June 6, with a high near 85°F and an 80% chance of rain — the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for much of North Texas, so stay radar-aware and keep your plans flexible all day.

Today’s Setup

A slow-moving upper low is drawing a deep plume of Gulf moisture straight into North Texas, with precipitable water values near 2 inches. The Weather Prediction Center has flagged the DFW area under a Slight Risk of Excessive Rainfall today. Per the National Weather Service, the heaviest activity is expected to ramp up along and east of the I-35 corridor around sunrise and persist through the afternoon and into the evening. Individual storm cells could drop a half to three-quarters of an inch of rain quickly — enough to cause problems in low-lying neighborhoods and areas near the Trinity River corridors. A few strong storms could also produce gusty winds and hail from this afternoon into tonight.

Flash Flood Safety

The National Weather Service is explicit: localized heavy rainfall and flash flooding is the primary hazard today. If water is moving across a road, turn around — don’t drown. Make sure your household emergency gear is in order; a smoke detector combo pack is an easy, important item to have ready heading into storm season.

Rangers Gameday at Globe Life Field

The Texas Rangers host the Cleveland Guardians at Globe Life Field today, June 6. Pre-game conditions will be wet and unsettled, so give yourself plenty of extra drive time from anywhere in the Metroplex. Show up ready with a Texas Rangers jersey or Texas Rangers fitted cap, and grab your seats through Get tickets on SeatGeek before they go.

Tonight’s Events

Headed to Dickies Arena tonight for the Nate Bargatze: Big Dumb Eyes World Tour Special Taping? You’ll be indoors — smart call on a stormy Saturday. Storm chances linger around 50% through midnight, so budget extra commute time. Still need seats? Find tickets on StubHub.

Looking further ahead: the Luke Bryan: Word On The Street Tour hits Dickies Arena on June 11 — snag a Luke Bryan t-shirt before the show.

What To Bring Today

A packable rain jacket is non-negotiable today. Swap sandals for closed-toe shoes, and if the kids are stuck inside all afternoon, a kids craft activity kit will save your Saturday. Give yourself extra drive time on wet highways across the Metroplex — conditions will be slow.

Rainy Day Dinner

Today is exactly what slow cookers were made for. Load a programmable slow cooker with chili or pulled pork before noon and let dinner take care of itself. Or go classic with a beef stew simmering in an enameled cast iron Dutch oven. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything delivered right to your door.

Next Few Days

Sunday brings more of the same — a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms with a high near 90°F and south winds 5 to 15 mph. The National Weather Service says drier weather returns for most of the upcoming week, but heat index values will climb near or above 100°F each afternoon. Classic DFW June: trade the flooding for the furnace. Plan outdoor projects and yard work for early mornings next week before the heat peaks.
