Dallas-Fort Worth weather today is mostly cloudy with a high near 80°F and breezy south winds at 10 to 15 mph, gusting as high as 30 mph—ideal conditions for getting outside and enjoying spring.

After a mild overnight low around 66°F, clouds will linger through the morning and into the early afternoon across the Metroplex, finally lifting and scattering out by around 3 PM CT. This means neighborhoods like Highland Park and areas along the I-35 corridor may struggle to escape the upper 70s with cloud cover remaining at least scattered through the evening. Once those clouds break, temperatures will climb steadily into the low to mid 80s across North and Central Texas.

The National Weather Service forecasters note that a substantial capping inversion will likely inhibit storm development today, though a highly conditional threat for a severe storm or two may materialize late Thursday afternoon and evening northwest of the Metroplex along or north of I-20 and west of I-35—with only a 10-15% chance. If a storm does develop in that area, the environment would support large hail and damaging wind gusts, but most of us will stay dry.

What to do today:

This is excellent golf weather—grab your clubs and head to one of DFW’s premier courses. Bring a Yeti rambler bottle 26oz to stay hydrated on the fairways. If you’re planning to fish at one of the local lakes, conditions are favorable; stock up on a crappie jig kit for a productive afternoon on the water. Better yet, fire up the grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob. An instant-read meat thermometer and grill brush and scraper set will ensure perfectly cooked meals every time. Set up a patio furniture set in your backyard and enjoy the afternoon breeze. If you’re hosting guests, a picnic basket set for 4 and outdoor string lights will make the evening memorable.

Evening plans:

If you’re heading to the WWE Friday Night SmackDown at Dickies Arena tonight (April 24), you’ll have pleasant conditions for tailgating and parking lot gatherings—bring an insulated water jug 1 gallon to stay refreshed.

Dinner suggestion:

Perfect grilling weather calls for a backyard cookout. Fire up the propane gas grill and prepare steaks or grilled chicken with corn on the cob. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Looking ahead:

Friday will be warmer with highs near 88°F and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 PM CT (20% chance). Friday night into the weekend, daily low storm chances will continue across parts of North and Central Texas, but most locations will stay dry. A couple of strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible each afternoon and evening through at least Sunday. Keep an eye on Dallas-Fort Worth weather forecast for updates as the weekend approaches.
