Dallas–Fort Worth is expecting showers and thunderstorms today with a high near 63°F—so leave the umbrella by the door and grab a packable rain jacket instead for the unpredictable conditions rolling through our metro.

We’re in the thick of a wet pattern that started overnight and will dominate your Tuesday. Rain chances sit at a solid 90% throughout the day, with the heaviest activity expected between mid-morning and mid-afternoon. The National Weather Service is calling for rainfall amounts between half and three-quarters of an inch, which is significant enough that you’ll want to keep an eye on low-lying areas, especially around White Rock Lake and drainage areas near the Trinity River. While we’re not under a flash flood watch at this time, the Weather Prediction Center has flagged a marginal risk of excessive rainfall for portions of Texas, so stay weather-aware if you’re near flood-prone neighborhoods.

Southeast winds will gust up to 25 mph, making it feel choppier than the temperature suggests. This isn’t a day for the golf course—Cowboys Golf Club and other local courses will be soggy. Same goes for any plans at Fair Park or outdoor shopping in areas like Uptown Dallas. If you’ve got kids, this is the perfect day to break out a board game collection and make an afternoon of it indoors.

What to wear: Layer up with a packable rain jacket that fits in your bag—you’ll want it on and off as storms pass. A compact travel umbrella won’t hurt either, and if you’re heading to Globe Life Field for the Rangers–Pirates game tonight, keep a waterproof phone pouch handy to protect your tickets and photos.

Sports fans: The Rangers take on Pittsburgh tonight at Globe Life Field—conditions will be wet and cool (upper 50s by game time). Tailgating will be damp, so bring extra seating that can handle moisture. Wednesday looks much better for baseball, with clearing skies and temps climbing to 79°F, so if you’re planning to catch the game against the Pirates on Wednesday or Thursday, those days will be far more pleasant.

On the bright side, this system moves out by late tonight. Wednesday morning clears up nicely, and we’ll see sunshine return with temps rebounding into the upper 70s—great news for FC Dallas fans heading to Toyota Stadium Thursday night.

Tonight’s dinner idea: This is prime slow-cooker weather. Throw together a hearty beef stew or chili this morning, and you’ll have comfort food ready when you get home. Did you know you can order groceries on Amazon? Get everything you need for tonight’s dinner—beef chuck, potatoes, onions, and spices—delivered straight to your door.

Looking ahead: Wednesday brings sunshine and 79°F—nearly 20 degrees warmer. Thursday continues pleasant before warming further into the weekend.
