Miami is waking up to sunny skies and a high near 83°F today, but don’t let the forecast fool you—the National Weather Service is tracking a weakening cold front that could spark isolated to scattered thunderstorms this afternoon, mainly over the interior and Southwest Florida.

Here’s what’s happening: a mid-level shortwave impulse of energy will push through the region as the frontal boundary gradually moves eastward. While overall storm coverage looks lower than yesterday, the NWS says an isolated strong thunderstorm with gusty winds, heavy downpours, and small hail can’t be ruled out inland this afternoon. If you’re planning activities near the Everglades or heading toward the western communities, keep an eye on the sky around 2–5 PM ET.

For beachgoers at South Pointe Park, Miami Beach, or Crandon Park in Key Biscayne, you’re in much better shape. The coastal areas should stay mostly dry with just a 7% chance of rain. Northeast winds at 3–9 mph will keep things pleasant—perfect beach weather if you can get there by midday.

What to do today:

If you’re grilling tonight, this is ideal weather. Fire up the grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob. An instant-read meat thermometer and grill brush and scraper set will help you nail it. Tonight stays partly cloudy with lows around 75°F—great for an outdoor dinner.

Golfers heading to Biltmore Golf Course or courses in the area should play early; the afternoon is when storms are most likely. If you’re heading to Hard Rock Stadium or planning to watch the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix on May 1st at Miami International Autodrome, the weather’s shaping up beautifully for that event. Get tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub for the best seats. The Guns N’ Roses concert at Hard Rock Live on April 30th will have perfect conditions too—grab a Florence + The Machine t-shirt if you’re hitting shows around town.

Fishermen planning a trip should wait until Tuesday; today’s storm risk makes it dicey, but the next few days look excellent for getting out on the water.

Allergy note: If you’re dealing with seasonal allergies, consider stocking up on Zyrtec 24 hour allergy 90 count before the afternoon pollen kicks up.

Looking ahead:

Tuesday through Wednesday bring drier conditions and above-normal temperatures in the low 80s—basically perfect spring weather. The front moves offshore, and we’ll settle into a pleasant pattern through the rest of the week. Humidity stays manageable with light winds.

For tonight’s cookout, you’ll want quality ingredients. You can order groceries on Amazon—grab what you need for grilling, and everything arrives ready to cook. The weather’s on your side for the next few days, so plan outdoor activities accordingly.

Stay weather-aware this afternoon, but overall, Miami’s looking at a fantastic late April stretch ahead.
