New York City is looking at a warm, mostly sunny Saturday with a high near 81°F, easing back to around 79°F by afternoon — solid weather for the ballpark, the park, or the backyard grill, but the National Weather Service is flagging a high risk of rip currents at the ocean beaches today, so this isn’t a day to swim outside the flags.

Today’s Setup

Weak high pressure aloft is sliding east through the afternoon, letting southerly flow build in across the five boroughs. Wind stays light out of the south at 2 to 13 mph, humidity is creeping up, and rain chances are minimal (6%). Forecasters note a weak disturbance could spark an isolated shower or storm north and west of the city late this afternoon, but any activity should be isolated and wane by evening — most of NYC stays dry.

Best Window To Be Outside

Late morning through mid-afternoon is your sweet spot before humidity thickens up. It’s a good day for Central Park, a Hudson River walk, or nine holes — pack a golf tee assortment if you’re headed to the course. Anglers should also take advantage before conditions turn unsettled Sunday night; kayak fishing accessories are worth having on board, and it’s the season to grab a Score a UPF 50+ Sun Hoodie for Just $5 This Fishing Season for sun protection on the water.

Rain, Wind, Fire, Or Heat Risk

The big flag today is at the coast: south/southeast swells near 3 feet at 8 seconds, combined with south winds of 10-15 knots this afternoon, are producing 3-4 foot surf and a high rip current risk at ocean beaches. Swim near a lifeguard, and if you get caught in a rip, swim parallel to shore. Rip risk eases to moderate on Sunday. Separately, NWS confidence is increasing in a period of heavy rain arriving late Sunday night into Monday, with isolated flash flood potential — Sunday’s rain chance jumps to 81% overnight, so keep outdoor plans flexible into early next week.

Mets, Yankees, and Hamilton This Weekend

The Mets host the Marlins at Citi Field both today and Sunday — warm, mostly dry conditions both days make for good tailgating and gameday weather, especially today. Grab your New York Mets jersey and New York Mets fitted cap and Get tickets on SeatGeek. The Yankees welcome the Cardinals to Yankee Stadium Monday and Tuesday (Aug. 3-4), with the Braves in town Aug. 8 — Find tickets on StubHub for either series. If theater’s more your speed, Hamilton is on stage tonight at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, no weather worries required.

Dinner Tonight & Weekend Grilling

With dry, warm conditions through this evening, it’s a great night to fire up a propane gas grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob. An instant-read meat thermometer takes the guesswork out of doneness, and a grill brush and scraper set keeps grates clean between cookouts. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Sunday holds a slight chance of showers after 8 a.m. with a high near 79°F, but the real story is Sunday night into Monday, when heavier rain and an isolated flash flood risk move in. The National Weather Service says unsettled conditions continue into midweek, so keep an eye on updated forecasts before locking in Monday plans.
