Orlando’s forecast today calls for a hot push to 94°F with heat index values as high as 103°F, plus scattered afternoon thunderstorms after 11 AM as an offshore flow pattern sends storms drifting east across Central Florida. If you’re headed to Disney, Universal, or SeaWorld, front-load your outdoor time before storms fire, then duck inside when the radar lights up.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service office in Melbourne says a subtropical ridge sitting just south of the area is keeping that offshore flow going, nudging storms eastward through the afternoon and evening. Hi-res models favor an earlier start today, with convection developing over northern Central Florida in the late morning before spreading south. Rain chances run 50-60% today, per the Area Forecast Discussion, with locally heavy downpours of 1-3 inches possible and wind gusts to 40-50 mph in the stronger cells.

Best Window To Be Outside

Mornings are the move. Get errands, tee times, or a walk around Lake Eola Park done before 11 AM, when NWS expects showers and storms to start bubbling up. Winds stay light out of the west at 5 to 10 mph until then, making it a solid window before humidity and storms take over the afternoon.

Rain, Wind, Or Heat Risk

No severe weather watches are posted, but frequent lightning and gusty winds are the main threats with any stronger storm today, per NWS. Heat is the bigger daily concern — a 103°F heat index this afternoon means real heat-safety rules apply: water breaks, shade, no all-day park marathons without a cooldown. Given the chance of gusty storms, it’s not a bad day to keep a portable power station like the DARAN 288Wh Power Station charged at home in case of a brief flicker.

What To Wear Or Bring

Pack for sun and sudden downpours both: a packable rain jacket or compact travel umbrella tucks easily into a park bag, and no show socks bamboo help with sweaty theme-park miles. Keep an insulated tumbler 30oz full of ice water — hydration matters more than reapplying sunscreen today.

Orlando Events This Week

Megan Moroney brings her Cloud 9 Tour to Kia Center Thursday, July 16 — get tickets on SeatGeek and grab a Megan Moroney t-shirt before the show. Over at House of Blues Orlando, Club 90s Present BTS Night (18+) hits Friday, July 17 — find tickets on StubHub if you’re heading out.

Tonight’s Dinner

With highs near 94°F and humidity climbing, skip the stove. A cold Thai noodle salad or a smoothie bowl blended in a high-powered blender and served in that insulated tumbler 30oz keeps things cool on the patio. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Tuesday looks similar — 95°F, storms after late morning, heat index near 102°F — before Saharan dust filtering in trims rain chances into midweek, per NWS. For more ways to gear up for Florida’s storm season, browse our outdoor gear deals hub.
