Phoenix is baking under a sunny sky today with a high near 109°F, and the National Weather Service warns of patchy blowing dust and gusty winds tonight as storm outflow sweeps into the Valley — so knock out errands, workouts, or yard work early, and have a dust-storm plan ready after dark.

Today’s Setup

The subtropical high parked over the Southwest is sliding toward the central Rockies today, and NWS Phoenix forecasters say that shift is starting to pull more monsoon moisture into the state. A storm complex over northern Sonora sent outflow winds toward the Lower Colorado River Valley overnight, and similar outflow is possible again this evening as thunderstorms fire mainly over southeastern Arizona and Gila County. Gusts of 30-40 mph and blowing dust are possible in south-central Arizona as that outflow pushes through, and the Weather Prediction Center has Arizona under a slight risk of excessive rainfall today.

Best Window To Be Outside

With the high near 109°F and overnight lows only easing to around 87-89°F, the coolest window is right around sunrise. If you’re headed up Camelback Mountain or South Mountain, plan to be off the trail well before 9 a.m. Pool time, splash pads, or an early grocery run beat anything scheduled midday.

Rain, Wind, Or Heat Risk

The NWS has widespread Moderate HeatRisk in place through the next several days. Tonight’s blowing dust and gusts to 30 mph mean patio furniture, trash cans, and sun shades should be secured. Sunday brings better storm chances (51%) after 5 p.m. with heat index values as high as 111°F, so the monsoon pattern is clearly ramping up.

What To Wear Or Bring

A UV protection sun hat and light-colored clothing help a lot today. Keep an insulated water jug 1 gallon in the car and refill it often — dehydration sneaks up fast at 109°F. If tonight’s gusts knock out power anywhere in the Valley, check today’s DARAN power station deal as a handy backup.

Around Town

The Arizona Rattlers host their game tonight at Desert Diamond Arena — indoor comfort, no heat worries. Tomorrow, the Fuerza Regida concert hits Chase Field; grab a Fuerza Regida t-shirt or Fuerza Regida hat before the show, or get tickets on SeatGeek if you’re still deciding. Downtown also sees Dear Evan Hansen at Phoenix Theatre-AZ tomorrow.

Dinner Idea

Grilling in triple-digit heat is risky, so save the portable propane grill for early morning or after sunset once the dust settles. A simple pasta or stir-fry keeps the kitchen cool tonight. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Expect more sunny, near 108-109°F days through the weekend as monsoon moisture deepens. Sunday’s storm chances rise to 51% after 5 p.m., and forecasters expect elevated thunderstorm chances into next week.
