San Antonio is waking up to mostly cloudy skies and 94°F today, with oppressively humid conditions that will make it feel closer to 100-105°F by afternoon—just shy of heat advisory territory for our area.

Here’s what the National Weather Service is telling us: expect those low clouds to slowly burn off by late morning, giving way to partly cloudy skies. The real story today is the humidity—dewpoints will hover in the 70s, trapping moisture across the city from the Alamo to the Hill Country. That’s why your air conditioning is about to earn its keep.

A Small Severe Weather Window (4-8 PM CT)

There’s a Level 1 out of 5 severe weather risk this afternoon, but don’t panic. The National Weather Service says this is a “conditional” risk—meaning if isolated storms manage to break through the cap of warm air overhead, they could become strong to severe. The most likely window is 4 PM to 8 PM CT. However, the probability of storms actually forming remains low at 10-20%, so most of us will stay dry. Bottom line: keep an eye on the sky if you’re heading to the River Walk or Brackenridge Park, but your Sunday plans should be fine.

Tonight & Monday: More Heat

This evening will be another warm night with lows around 73°F as clouds fill back in. Monday follows the same playbook—partly sunny, highs near 95°F, and heat index values creeping toward 102°F. The humidity won’t break anytime soon.

What to Do Today

If you’re planning outdoor activities, get them done early before the afternoon heat peaks. Golfers should head out first thing—the morning conditions will be much more pleasant than the afternoon furnace. The fishing window at local spots is decent early on, though the heat will slow the bite by midday.

Heading to WWE Monday Night RAW at the Sames Auto Arena on April 27th? You’ll be indoors with air conditioning, so no weather concerns there. If you’re catching the Spurs vs. Trail Blazers playoff game (Game 5) on April 28th at Frost Bank Center, same story—the arena will be nice and cool. Grab Get tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub if you haven’t already, and pick up some Official team gear on Fanatics to show your Silver and Black pride.

Planning to grill tonight? This is perfect weather to fire up the grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob. A grill brush and scraper set and instant-read meat thermometer will help you nail those temperatures in the heat. You can order groceries on Amazon to stock up on everything you need for tonight’s cookout.

Looking Ahead

Expect this hot and humid pattern to persist into the middle of next week. No significant rain is expected through Monday, so if you’ve been waiting to water the lawn or treat it with lawn fertilizer spring, this dry stretch is your window. Stay hydrated, check on elderly neighbors, and keep pets indoors during peak afternoon heat. We’ll reassess the pattern by mid-week.
