San Antonio is in for a soggy Tuesday with showers and thunderstorms likely throughout the day, a high near 72°F, and a 70% chance of precipitation.

The wet weather started overnight and will continue straight through your morning commute and into the afternoon. The National Weather Service expects activity to intensify across the eastern two-thirds of our area—which includes downtown, the Southside, and stretching out toward the Hill Country. If you’re heading to work near Fort Sam Houston, Lackland, or anywhere along the I-35 corridor, pack patience and a good umbrella. Light rain is expected between a tenth and a quarter inch, though our local forecasters are watching for the possibility of heavier amounts if storms develop along a boundary similar to yesterday’s setup that dumped significant rain over Bexar, Comal, and parts of Guadalupe County.

What to do today: This is a perfect day to skip outdoor plans. If you absolutely need to be outside—say, running errands near the River Walk or heading to the Frost Bank Center for tonight’s Spurs game against Portland—grab a packable rain jacket and a compact travel umbrella. Both will keep you dry without taking up much space. The cooler, rain-cooled air means temperatures will struggle to reach the low 70s, so you might even want a light layer. If you’re planning to fish at one of the local lakes, today’s not ideal; the storms will keep the fish deep.

Tonight’s Spurs game: Good news for fans heading to the Frost Bank Center at 7 PM CT—you’ll be indoors! The arena will be nice and dry while storms continue outside. Just plan extra time for parking and getting in, as wet conditions may slow traffic around the venue.

Tonight and Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms will likely continue through early evening, then taper to a chance of showers overnight. By Wednesday, we’ll see a break in the action with just a chance of storms and highs climbing to 82°F—much more pleasant for outdoor activities.

With all this indoor time, tonight’s the perfect opportunity for a slow cooker chili or beef stew. Set it this morning and come home to comfort food. A programmable slow cooker makes it effortless—just dump ingredients and let it simmer while you’re at work. Did you know you can order groceries on Amazon? Get everything you need for tonight’s dinner delivered straight to your door.

Looking ahead: The warming trend continues through the week. By Friday and the weekend, expect more typical spring weather in the upper 80s with lower rain chances—great for getting outside again.

Stay safe out there, and keep an eye on local flash flood alerts if you’re in our flood-prone areas.
