Tampa–St. Petersburg weather on Monday, June 1 starts with plenty of sunshine and a high near 91°F — but with the heat index climbing as high as 99°F by afternoon, get outside early and hydrate before the day gets uncomfortable.

Today’s Setup

A weak surface ridge is keeping the Gulf Coast quiet through midday. West winds at 5 to 12 mph with gusts up to 18 mph offer a touch of relief, but the humidity will do its thing quickly. The National Weather Service puts a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms (20%) arriving after noon, mostly over the interior. Clearwater Beach and St. Pete Beach should stay drier longer, but inland spots like Lettuce Lake Park or the Hillsborough River State Park corridor could see a pop-up storm by 2–3 PM ET. Tonight stays mostly cloudy with a low around 79°F.

Best Window To Be Outside

Your window is 7–11 AM ET. Run the Bayshore Boulevard loop, get a round in at one of the Innisbrook courses, or paddleboard off Weedon Island Preserve before the heat builds. Bring an insulated water jug 1 gallon — you’ll earn every drop. After noon, watch the sky and be ready to head indoors quickly; Florida lightning doesn’t give much warning.

Rain & Heat Risk This Week

The real story arrives Tuesday night. The National Weather Service is tracking a cold front pushing south through the Florida Peninsula, dragging widespread showers and thunderstorms into the area Tuesday night and Wednesday. A few of those storms could produce damaging wind gusts. Get loose patio furniture secured by Monday evening. Behind the front, Wednesday and Thursday bring welcome relief — highs in the low to mid 80s and drier air.

Tuesday brings a near-repeat of today: high near 91°F, heat index up to 98°F, and a slight storm chance (20%) in the afternoon.

Games & Events This Week

The Tampa Bay Rays host the Detroit Tigers at Tropicana Field today through Wednesday — all three games are indoors, so the front won’t touch your plans. A Tampa Bay Rays jersey or Tampa Bay Rays fitted cap is always a good call before heading to the Trop.

Young the Giant’s Victory Garden Tour with Cold War Kids hits the Yuengling Center on Tuesday, June 2. That’s an indoor venue, so Tuesday night’s storms won’t be a factor — Get tickets on SeatGeek if you’re still on the fence.

Hank Williams Jr. plays the MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre at the FL State Fairgrounds on Friday, June 5. The front should be clearing by then, but drier air is still filling in — watch the Thursday forecast. Grab a Hank Williams Jr. t-shirt and Find tickets on StubHub before the show sells out.

What To Bring Today

Lip balm SPF moisturizing is non-negotiable in this June sun, and an insulated tumbler 30oz keeps your cold brew or iced water cold through the heat of the afternoon. Light, breathable layers win today.

Beat-the-Heat Dinner Idea

Skip the stove entirely tonight. A cold Thai noodle salad, build-your-own wrap bar, or smoothie bowls are perfect for a 91-degree Monday. A high-powered blender makes smoothie bowls a two-minute project. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

  • Tuesday: 91°F, isolated afternoon storms, heat index near 98°F
  • Tuesday night–Wednesday: Widespread storms, some strong with damaging wind gusts possible — stay weather-aware
  • Wednesday–Thursday: Low to mid 80s, drier and much more comfortable behind the front
  • Weekend: Drier air continues to build; the England vs. New Zealand Florida Series match at Raymond James Stadium on June 6 is trending toward improving conditions
