Tampa weather today is shaping up to be absolutely gorgeous—sunny skies, a high near 89°F, and just a 2% chance of rain with light south-southwest winds at 3 to 10 mph.

It’s one of those classic late-April days where you can do just about anything outdoors without worrying about the afternoon thunderstorms that’ll become our daily clockwork come May. Whether you’re heading to Clearwater Beach, grabbing lunch in Ybor City, or catching some rays at one of our parks, today’s the day to be outside. The light breeze means it won’t feel oppressively hot, and the UV index will be strong, so sunscreen is your friend.

If you’re planning to grill tonight, conditions couldn’t be better—calm winds and no rain in sight. A simple pasta or stir-fry on the grill works perfectly on a day like this. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Gameday Alert: The Tampa Bay Lightning face the Montreal Canadiens tonight in NHL Playoffs Round 1, Game 3 at Benchmark International Arena. It’ll be a perfect evening for tailgating beforehand—warm, dry, and pleasant. Grab some Official team gear on Fanatics to show your support, and if you need tickets, check out options on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub.

Tonight stays pleasant, too. Expect partly cloudy skies, a low around 70°F, and westerly winds at 2 to 10 mph—great for an evening walk around downtown St. Pete or along the waterfront.

Looking Ahead: Thursday and Friday stay mostly sunny and warm (highs near 88–89°F), though the National Weather Service mentions a 20–40% chance of a few showers over the Nature Coast Thursday and Friday as a weak shortwave moves through. The bigger story arrives this weekend: a cold front will push through Saturday afternoon into Sunday, bringing much better rain chances across the entire region—we’re talking showers and thunderstorms from Saturday afternoon through Sunday night. Temperatures will drop about 5–10 degrees Sunday thanks to the rain and cloud cover, then quickly rebound Monday and Tuesday as high pressure and drier conditions return.

With the warm, dry pattern holding through Friday and fire danger ramping up across the region, now’s a good time to check your home’s fire safety. Make sure you have a smoke detector combo pack installed and working, and consider keeping a fire blanket kitchen and fireproof document safe on hand for peace of mind. If you live in a multi-story home, a fire escape ladder 2 story could be a lifesaver.

Enjoy today—it’s a gift before the weekend rain arrives!
